I am RE:SOLVE'ed.

Now, after seeing this multi-tool in this thread…I just knew I had to have one for the collection.

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,23506.0.html

I do love the wild, wacky, odd, and endearing multi-tool out there, and THAT looked like it matched a few of those criteria.

Well when Sazabi offered to get me one, little did I know there were so many different models out there.

The blue models are similar but differ in packaging, labeling style, and a few little cosmetic details that are largely unnoticed unless you have both and are looking at them through a magnifier.

Talk about a weird and funky series of brick ergonomic multi-tools.

First up is the RE:SOLVE 17 piece General Purpose multi-tool. This brick is coloured a nice fetching blue. And features SAE sockets 3/16", ¼", 5/16", 3/8", Metric sockets 5, 6, 8, and 10mm, 3/16" and ¼" flat screwdrivers, #1 and #2 Phillips screwdrivers, 3/16" Hex key, 2.5" frame locking knife blade, bottle opener, scratch awl, and ¼" drive socket bar.

Next up is the RE:SOLVE 11 piece Prep & Paint multi-tool. This tool in a beautiful shade of yellow, and is a brick in shape. This tool features a scraper, putty knife, caulk tube needle, paint can opener, caulk squeegee, 3mm and 1/8" hex keys, ¼" and 1/8" flat screwdrivers, and #1 and 2 Phillips screwdriver.

The next weird and wacky multi-tool is the RE:SOLVE 10 piece Home Décor multi-tool. This weird multi-tool features a ¼" and 3/16" flat screwdrivers, #1 and 2 Phillips screwdrivers, removable stud finder and level, 6' tape measure, #2 pencil, pencil sharpener, and hole starter.

The last in the series is the RE:SOLVE 10 piece Outdoor Recreation multi-tool. This lovely green brick features a removable LED flashlight with flint, 4" adjustable wrench, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm Hex keys, 2.5" locking blade knife, #1 Phillips screwdriver, ¼" flat screwdriver, bottle opener, 2.5" saw, and a very nice pair of scissors.

These are all Lowe exclusives. Got to love the ergonomics and some of the tools built into them. Wacky and weird enough that I wanted them. Thanks Sazabi for getting me these oddballs.

I'll bet a lot of dads around the country will be putting on the fake smiles when they pull one of those out of their stocking on Christmas morning! ;) :D

Luckily, not this Dad.

Chako:  How's the blade play on lockup on those "beauties"?

One of the blues has a 1cm blade play. :ahhh

The others are more around 1 to 2mm...so not bad overall.

Strange question - does the "scraper" blade on the paint/prep tool lock?

Hmm, blade play and bulk, not my cup of tea...

the different colours and different tool sets evoke somehow a set of action heroes, each with their own special powers (c.f. ninja turtles, power rangers).

Yes it does Jekostas.

Gareth...yes they are for a collection. Would I lug one around as a user...never. No way to carry it, there is blade play, build quality is not up there, brick ergonomics, and questionable tool function, not to mention heavy weight.

Add all that up and I just had to have them.

With that said, the Painter/caulking tool is not bad functionally, and I could see it being used for that purpose on a job site. The scissors on the outdoor tool are fantastic. They have a very nice build and the size and action of them I like very much. These do have their place in a small kit in a glove compartment box or bicycle tool kit depending on the tool bought. They are also cheap, and you do get what you pay for. Do these replace the better multi-tools...no.

Maybe I'm just a little daft, but what is the triangle thing on the pain tool?

Obviously the official RE:SOLVE guitar pick.

It's the caulk finishing tool.  Lay down your bead of caulk, then run the rounded corner of this along it, with the flat sides pressed to your walls...it'll scrape up any excess caulk and leave an even bead along your seam.

Me...I use my finger :P

I thought so.  Despite the description, that's NOT a scraper, at least not primarily.  It's meant for driving holes in the rim of paint cans so you don't spray paint everywhere when you put the lids back on.

I picked up the Outdoor Recreation model today on a whim when I was looking for tamper-proof bits at Lowes and saw this in the same aisle. I recalled from this thread that it wasn't quite top of the line, but I couldn't help myself. :gimme:

Not bad for what it is.
I'm not really one for off-brand tools. I've almost exclusively purchased Leatherman, SOG, and US-made Gerber multitools in the past. This one doesn't have the fit and finish of a top-shelf tool, but it is an interesting combination of tools, innovative inclusion of the flint rod, and the price was right.

I'm not sure how a wrench or hex drivers are going to help in the woods, though.

You forgot it's advanced paper-weight technology, also, a hidden ability of the tools is as an impact device against the cars of drivers that smurf you off in traffic. :D

Thank you Chako for pointing this out to me.

I own the green outdoor version, however the biggest fault is the light and wrench are not attached. And therefor have gone missing! I'll have to dig it out and take some pictures. It's definitely  seen some abuse.

What do you mean? This is such a great concept in tool functionality.

Not sure if they are still being produced however. That would be a shame if they didn't make them anymore. :D
